BEACHES

Famous for its glorious beaches, West Cornwall has numerous coves, some of which can only be reached on foot, and wide sweeping bays. Dolphins, seals and basking sharks are regular visitors to the local seas and are often visible from the coastal path.

Some of the best beaches are:

Porth Nanven beach just 1 mile from St Just. This secluded little known beach is ideal for swimming. The small sandy beach is surrounded by unusual egg shaped boulders and has plenty of rock pools to explore.

Sennen Cove has a beautiful long white sandy beach. This Blue Flag beach is ideal for surfing and swimming and is manned by lifeguards in the summer months. There is a surf school, shop and hire facilities, as well as an excellent restaurant on the beach.

Gwynver beach is the next bay along from Sennen. At low tide it can be reached by a short stroll along the beach or along the coastal path at other times. There is a car park at the top of the hill above the beach. This beach is popular with surfers. Life guards on duty in the summer.

Porthcurno has lovely white sand. It is on the south coast so is usually quite sheltered and is ideal for swimming. Lifeguards are on duty in the summer months. The Minnack theatre is nestled into the cliffs overlooking the beach.

Gwithian beach has over three miles of golden sand stretching from Godrevy Lighthouse to Carbis Bay just outside of St Ives.
